Oct 31, 2025

Financial struggle is complex. Luckily, United Way provides a multi-faceted solution!

United Way of Whatcom County partners with nonprofit organizations providing services in one or more of the following impact areas to help folks on their path from survival to stability.

Meeting Basics Needs:

It can feel impossible to move forward when you don’t know where your next meal is coming from, how you’ll get medical treatment, or where you’ll lay your head tonight. United Way supports organizations that provide:

  • Food
  • Safe, attainable, affordable housing
  • Health and mental health care access

Increasing Economic Mobility:

Once folks have their basic needs met, what’s next? With the cost of living outpacing wages, it’s important to be able to have the skills to secure higher paying jobs and manage money well. United Way funds nonprofit organizations that provide:

  • Vocational training
  • Financial education and well-being programs
  • Adult education

Giving workers the tools they need to increase their earning power is an important next step to financial security.

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty:

United Way isn’t just interested in helping folks now, they want to break unhelpful cycles and set the next generation up for success. United Way supports organizations that provide:

  • Affordable childcare and early learning programs
  • Academic programs to increase student attendance and achievement
  • Parenting support
  • Addiction treatment and recovery
  • Abuse prevention
