United Way 101: Community Impact

Nov 14, 2025

When you give to United Way of Whatcom County, one gift supports 24 local nonprofits, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and so much more!

The beauty of this model is that you can say YES to supporting all of this amazing work at once, helping so many kids, families, workers, and seniors who are experiencing hard times.

Here are just a few of the many impacts you are making possible:

  • Providing nutritious food for over 35,000 people through Bellingham and Ferndale food banks and 425 homebound seniors through Whatcom Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels and More program.
  • Making animal-assisted mental health supports available for local kids, veterans, and seniors through Animals as Natural Therapy.
  • Helping nearly 2,000 hardworking adults gain literacy and vocational skills to increase their earning power through Whatcom Literacy Council, Evergreen Goodwill, and Work Opportunities.
  • Allowing individuals, families, and youth access hygiene needs like showers, laundry, and restrooms, along with a host of medical and mental health services, including help with substance use via The Way Station and Unity Care NW.
  • Giving thousands of folks access to safe and stable housing through programs at DVSAS, Lydia Place, Mercy Housing, Road2Home, and Sun Community Service, as well as housing stability services through Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center.
  • Supporting youth to stay in school and explore post-secondary educational and career-oriented programs through Communities in Schools, FuturesNW, and Whatcom Family YMCA.
  • Helping over 4,500 of our community’s littlest learners reach their full potential and become school ready with help from Whatcom Center for Early Learning, Bellingham Childcare and Learning Center, Whatcom Family YMCA, and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Together, we are investing nearly $750,000 into our community and helping over 50,000 of our friends and neighbors every single year.
