The Community Safety Net is how United Way of Whatcom County ensures efficiency in helping the greatest number of people. Many people want to give, but simply don’t know the specific needs of this community. Some people donate to their local food bank or hospital, while others give to the local chapter of well-known, national organizations.
But what about the places that are smaller and are helping people right here in Whatcom County? It would be difficult for each and every one of us to research and visit every community agency to find out where money is needed the most. Thankfully in our community, you can leave that to United Way. When you give to United Way your money is invested in the Community Safety Net.
We have done the research, visited the agencies and know them well.
The Fund Distribution Committee carefully reviews proposals from our partner agencies to distribute Community Safety Net funds in a way that guarantees a generous return on your charitable investment in the community.

We know how important it is to give to the local chapters of large organizations like American Red Cross, as well as to the smaller agencies like the Whatcom Literacy Council. United Way knows and understands the needs of this community and all of its members. The Community Safety Net is just that--a safety net that makes sure no one slips through the cracks and ensures there is money to provide resources for everyone in need.
