A Few United Way Definitions

Partner Agency – A Whatcom County health and human service agency that receives Community Safety Net Funds. Partner agencies have met basic eligibility requirements and are providing programs that meet community identified needs.

Affiliate Agencies - Affiliate Agencies are not currently receiving allocations from the Community Safety Net fund but are still in relationship with United Way of Whatcom County and may renew full partnership agency status in the future.

Community Safety Net – United Way’s main product. The Community Safety Net supports a network of services that are both preventative and treatment oriented. Funded programs promote self-sufficiency, strengthen families, improve health, help youth, elderly and adults with special needs and provide the basics for people experiencing a crisis or emergency. Only United Way Partner Agencies receive funding from the Community Safety Net Fund.

Direct Donor Designations
– All donors tell United Way where they would like their donation sent. Eighty percent of donors choose to support the Community Safety Net Fund. Twenty percent of donors choose to direct their donation to a specific agency. Direct donor designation is provided by United Way as a service to donors. United Way combines the designations of many donors and then passes on the designation, less a handling and administrative cost, to the chosen agency.
